These temples are located in the snow-clad ranges of the Uttarakhand Himalayas. You will enjoy the views of towering mountain peaks, glaciers, and valleys. All four of these temples have deep mythological roots. They are places where ancient ascetics meditated for centuries. Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Haridwar to Barkot via Mussoorie + Night stay in Barkot

After the early morning breakfast, you will go for a bath in the Ganga River. This Ganga Snan is the most sacred thing to do in Haridwar. Then proceed to Barkot, which is around a 7-hour journey. We will pass by the beautiful Kempty Falls on the route, which is in Mussoorie. You can enjoy the views of the waterfall and the surrounding lush greenery. By the time you reach Barkot, it will be evening, and you can check into the hotel and then have an overnight stay.

Day 2: Barkot to Yamunotri

Today is going to be an exciting day in this Char Dham Yatra. After an early breakfast, we will leave Barkot and proceed to our first darshan of Yamunotri. After a drive of 42 km, we will reach Janki Chatti. From this point, you will start a trek of 5 kms to Yamunotri. On reaching Yamunotri, you will have a holy dip in the natural thermal bath at Surya Kund, followed by Puja and Darshan of the deity, Goddess Yamunotri. You can visit the nearby sites like Divya Shila, which is a rock pillar near the main shrine. After doing the darshan, start your trek back to Janki Chatti and return to Barkot. Have dinner in the hotel and then stay overnight in Barkot.

Day 3: Barkot to Uttarkashi + Overnight stay in Uttarkashi

After your morning breakfast, you can have a relaxed time in the hotel and take a rest. We will now leave Barkot and proceed to Uttarkashi. The journey is approximately 4 hours by cab. After checking into the hotel, you can visit the nearby temples of Uttarkashi. Among these is the Shree Kashi Vishwanath Temple, which is said to have been originally built by the famous sage Parshuram. Have darshan of the deity of this temple and then have casual walks around and visit other temples. Then back to the hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 4: Uttarkashi to Gangotri and back to Uttarkashi

Today you will have the first darshan of Maa Ganga, the holiest river of India. Have an early breakfast and proceed by cab to Gangotri, which is around 4 hours journey. On the way, you can visit Ganganani, which is a natural hot spring. It is a ritual of devotees to have bath here and cleanse themselves. Then proceed to Gangotri Temple, and a mere darshan of Gangotri Temple will bring tears in your eyes and peace of mind. This is the place from where River Ganga originates as Bhagirathi. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Shiva released River Ganga, when he opened his locks of hair. You can have snan (bath) at the Gauri Kund and then visit Bhagirath Shila and Gauri Ganesh Temple. Then start your retune journey and back to Uttarkashi.

Day 5: Uttarkashi to Guptkashi

You have to travel a lot of kilometres today, as it is a long journey from Uttarkashi to Guptkashi. It is a journey of almost 200 km, and it could take an entire day to reach Guptkashi. You can have glimpses of the Ganga River flowing parallel to your route. On the way, you will pass through several bridges and view spectacular waterfalls. The route is as scenic as it is long. As you come near Guptkashi, you can view the Mandakini River flow nearby. Enjoy the valley views and the scenic landscapes. On reaching Guptkashi, check into the hotel and have an overnight stay.

Day 6: Guptkashi to Kedarnath and overnight stay in Kedarnath

Today, you will have darshan of the highest Jyotirlinga temple in the world, which is none other than Kedarnath. After checking out of the hotel in Guptkashi, we will drive towards Sonprayag/ Gaurikund. This is a short drive of around 2-3 hours. After reaching Gaurikund, start the trek to Kedarnath Temple, which is 19 kms. The trek is one of the most arduous treks in the whole Char Dham Yatra. You can take pony rides, palkhi, or just walk on foot. But the views of the Mandakini River flowing through the valley below will make you forget all the tiredness of the body. You can take short breaks in between and minimize the fatigue. On arriving at Kedarnath Temple, perform puja and have darshan of the Kedarnath Jyotirlinga shrine. Also visit the nearby Meditation Cave, the origin of River Mandakini, and Bheem Shila. Then an overnight stay in Kedarnath.

Day 7: Return to Guptkashi/ Sitapur

You can come back to Kedarnath Jyotirlinga Temple for morning darshan. Then proceed on the return journey and come back to Sitapur/ Guptkashi. Relax in the hotel and stay overnight.

Day 8: Guptkashi/ Sitapur to Badrinath

After having breakfast in the hotel in Guptkashi/ Sitapur, we will proceed to the last dham of this Char Dham Yatra, which is Badrinath Dham. This is a journey of around 220 kms and will take approximately 7-8 hours. We can say that this is the most scenic journey, where you can visit four major river confluences and temples on the way. The river confluences, or prayags as they are known, are the meeting of two rivers. These prayags are:

Rudraprayag: meeting of Alaknanda and Mandakini Rivers

Karnaprayag: meeting of Alaknanda and Pindar Rivers

Nandaprayag: meeting of Alaknanda and Nandakini Rivers

Vishnuprayag: meeting of Alaknanda and Dhauliganga Rivers

You will also enjoy the views of Chopta, Auli, and the Himalayan mountains. Some of the Panch Badri temples are also on this route, like Vridh Badri Temple and Yogdhyan Badri Temple. Joshmath is also a major pilgrimage site on this route. You can take brief stops at these places and enjoy the sightseeing on the way. After you reach Badrinath, visit Badrinath Temple, and have darshan of the principal deity of this temple, Lord Badri Vishal. Badrinath is an immensely holy place, and sages have meditated here since mythological times. You can explore the local market near the temple and shop for puja items and local handicrafts. Then back to the hotel and an overnight stay in Badrinath.

Day 9: Badrinath to Rudraprayag

In the morning, you can again visit Badrinath Temple and perform rituals and puja. Have a holy dip in Taptkund near Badrinath Temple. Then go on short excursions to places nearby like Brahma Kapaal, Sheshnatra, Mana Village, Vishnu Charan Paduka, Bhim Pul, and Vyas Gufa. Then proceed on the return journey and reach Rudraprayag. On the way, you can have a brief stop at Joshimath and visit the major temples like Shri Narsingh Mandir and Adi Shankaracharya Temple. Arrive in Rudraprayag and stay in the hotel for the night.

Day 10: Rudraprayag to Haridwar

Early morning visit to the Rudraprayag Sangam where Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers meet. This is a very sacred spot and a scenic sight where you can clearly see the two river meeting. Then visit the Rudranath Temple and proceed to Haridwar/ Rishikesh. On the way you will visit the last prayag which is Devprayag. This is the place where Alaknanda and Bhagirathi Rivers meet. In Rishikesh you can visit the famous Laxman Jhula, Ram Jhula, and the ghats along the river. And after that Drop to Haridwar Railway station/Hotel for Your onwards journey.
