You are not only trekking through the snow-capped mountains, but doing a parikrama of Lord Shiva himself. On this Mount Kailash Kora, you can view the summit of Mount Kailash from different angles. In Dirapuk, you can view the North Face of Mount Kailash. You can do a small puja at Lake Mansarovar and drop a lock of hair at Shiva Sthal near Dolma La Pass. Detailed Itinerary

1

Day 1: Lucknow to Nepalganj

Arrive at the scheduled place of departure in Lucknow and meet our tour representative. Join other travellers who are waiting near the bus for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. Haul your luggage in the bus luggage compartment and take your seat in the bus. The bus will depart at its scheduled time for Nepalganj. This is a journey of approximately 200 km and will take 5-6 hours. You can make a brief stop on the route and have tea/ coffee/ light snacks.

On arriving in Nepalganj, check into the hotel pre-booked for this Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. The evening will be for rest, and our group leaders will brief you about the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra route, transportation, and precautions in the session. Then have dinner in the hotel and overnight stay.

Day 2: Flight from Nepalganj to Simikot

Today, wake up early and reach Nepalganj Airport. Board the earliest flight to Simikot. Please note that the flight from Nepalganj to Simikot depends on the weather conditions. There can be delays in flight operations if the weather is rough. The weather on this route keeps changing, so you should be prepared for delays in catching the flight.

On reaching Simikot Airport, our tour representative will greet you and take care of your luggage. Then, we will drive to the hotel, and you can check in. You will get accommodation in a dormitory guest house in Simikot. The rest of the evening is for relaxation as you will have to adjust to the change in altitude and weather conditions. If the weather is favourable, then board the helicopter to Hilsa today.

Distance covered: 297 kms by flight, 45 minutes

Accommodation: Sharing Basis in 4-star hotel

Note: You will have a night stay in Simikot. But if the operators find the weather suitable for a flight, then they will organize a trip to Hilsa and then drive to Taklakot.

Day 3: Helicopter Flight from Simikot to Hilsa + Drive to Taklakot

Arrive at Simikot Airport with your group and then take a helicopter flight to Hilsa. This will be a 25-minute flight, and the group of 5 members will take a helicopter flight at a time. Walk through the bridge and cross the river and arrive at the immigration counter. Then cross the Nepal-China border and arrive at the China immigration building. Complete the required formalities and then drive for 22 kms and arrive at Taklakot. Check into the hotel, acclimatize in your room, and take rest. Dinner will be in the hotel in Taklakot, and you can spend the night here.

Distance covered: (Nepal side) 25 km by helicopter + 22 kms drive on the China side.

Day 4: Acclimatization in Taklakot

You will spend the day at Taklakot and acclimatize to the atmosphere. You will rest for the whole day in the hotel at Taklakot and stay indoors. You may explore the nearby local market in Taklakot and buy items. Have dinner in the hotel and stay overnight in Taklakot.

Day 5: Taklakot to Mansarovar Lake

Today, you will finally have the first glimpse of Lake Mansarovar. You can view Mount Kailash in the distance and stay near the lake. Start early morning after breakfast from Taklakot and drive to Lake Mansarovar. On the way to Lake Mansarovar, we will stop on the route and visit Rakshas Taal. This lake is also called the Lake of Demons. The lake is named after the demon king Ravana. You can view Mount Kailash from here and have a glimpse of its snow-covered peak. You can enjoy photography at Rakshas Taal.

Then reach Chiu Gompa and check into the guest house, which is near the lake. Later, visit the lake and spend some time here, and you may do a small puja near the lake. Then do parikrama of the lake (circumambulation) by bus. The parikrama of the lake is of 90 kms and takes three hours. You can clearly see the lake and Mount Kailash from different angles in this parikrama. Return to the guest house near the lake and rest for the night.

Distance covered: Taklakot to Chiu Gompa 70 kms + 90 km drive around Lake Mansarovar

Note: Dip in Lake Mansarovar is not permitted at all. The Chinese government regards the dip as an offense. It is safe to visit the shores of the lake at night and watch the stars. You must, however, keep the Sherpa guide with you and walk in a group. Carry a torch, stick, and wear warm woollen clothes.

Day 6: Drive to Darchen + First Day of Kora of Mount Kailash (Mount Kailash Kora (parikrama)

Today we will start the parikrama of Mount Kailash. You can do a small puja at Lake Mansarovar in the early morning. Then have breakfast and then drive 35 kms and reach Darchen. This is a place with guest houses, hotels, markets, and shops. From Darchen, we will drive for 6 kms by bus and reach the Tarboche flagpole. Here you will find pony/ horse and porters for hire. However, due to the rush, you may face a shortage of ponies.

From this place, you can view the South face of Mount Kailash. Reach Yam Dwar, start the trek, and reach Dirapuk, which is 12 km from here. If you are walking on foot, then it will take around 5-6 hours to reach Dirapuk. Due to low oxygen content in the atmosphere, you may feel breathless and need to rest for intervals. The terrain is mostly flat, and you may have to drink water and walk slowly. In Dirapuk, you may trek for 3 km and do Charan Sparsh and touch the feet of Mount Kailash. However, this is a difficult trek and done only if the weather conditions are favourable.

On reaching Dirapuk, you will view the North Face of Mount Kailash. In Dirapuk, stay overnight in the guest house.

Distance covered: Drive 35 kms to Darchen + 13 kms trekking

Elevation: 5210 meters

Note: Those who do not want to trek can stay at Darchen and pay for meals, stay, and other expenses. But they should try to trek up to Yam Dwar and have darshan of Mount Kailash.

Day 7: Second Day of Mount Kailash Kora, Trek to Zuthulpukh via Gauri Kund

Wake up early and have a glimpse of the golden summit of Mount Kailash illuminated by the sunlight of the rising sun. This sight is not to be missed at all, and this darshan of Mount Kailash is perfect to capture in your camera lens.

Then start your trek to Zutul Puk, which is a 19 kms trek. You will have to cross the Dolma La Pass, which is a tough part of the trek. You can view Shiva Sthal at Dolma La Pass. It is a ritual among tourists to leave either a lock of hair, a drop of blood, some clothes, or ornaments here. This ritual is done as a symbol of leaving the miserable life behind and starting a new life. After coming down from Dolma La Pass, you will view Gauri Kund, which is also called Parvati Kund. Have darshan and then resume your trek and reach Zuthulpuk. Check into the guest house and have a night stay at Zuthulpuk.

Note: If you want to go back to Darchen from Dirapuk must pay the hotel stay, food and transportation costs themselves.

Day 8: Third Day, Trek to Darchen + Drive to Taklakot

After breakfast, you can explore the nearby caves and shrines. You must climb up to reach the caves, and they are worth exploring. Then trek for 6 kms and after 2-3 hours of walking, reach our final destination of this Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, which is Chongdo. Our vehicles are ready for us and prepared to pick us up. After driving 6 kms, we will reach Darchen, and we will meet our group members. Then have refreshments and then drive to Taklakot and stay overnight in the hotel.

Distance covered: 105 kms, drive of 3 hours

Elevation: 4575 meters

Accommodation: 4-star hotel on sharing basis

Note: Due to rough weather conditions in Hilsa, your return flight to Nepalganj may get delayed. In that case, you can stay in Hilsa, which has basic accommodation and facilities. You must stay in groups. Additional night stay in Hilsa is not included in the package. You must pay directly for food, stay, and transport in such cases.

Day 9: Flight to Nepalganj through Simikot + Drive to Lucknow

After an early breakfast, drive to the Nepal-China border. Then complete all the immigration formalities and cross the border and reach Hilsa, on the Nepal side. Then board the helicopter and fly to Simikot. Then board the connecting flight to Nepalganj. Now drive to Lucknow from Nepalganj.

Distance covered: 1:30 hours drive + 25 minutes helicopter ride + 45 minutes flight + 190 km drive to Lucknow

Elevation: 3640 meters (Hilsa), 2910 meters (Simikot), 152 meters (Nepalganj)

Accommodation: 4-star hotel on sharing basis
